2008 – Plus thirty percent and record in chartertraffic for Sweden’s oldest airport
2008 became a strong year for Norrköping Airport. During 2008 the number of passengers increased by 30% compared to 2007. At the same time the number of passengers travelling with charter flights reached a new record during 2008.
For the third year in a row the number of passengers from Norrköping Airport increased. Since the airports worst year in 2005 the number of passengers have increased with 53%. During 2008 a total of 113 515 passengers flew to and from Norrköping Airport which is an increase with 30% compared to 2007.
- We have had a strong year for the entire airport which includes aircargo-, charter-, domestic- and international traffic. The charteroperators Ving and Apollo prioritised Norrköping and introduced new destinations during 2008. These new destinations together with our new operator Turkietresors success have made it possible for Norrköping Airport to break a new record regarding chartertraffic, says Mari Torstensson, Airport Manager.
Also the number of passengers who used Cimber Sterling from Norrköping broke a new record. The new routes from Norrköping to Munich and Helsinki have generated new opportunities for the regions inhabitants to reach approximately 300 destinations with one single change from Norrköping Airport.
- Only during December did our airport increase with 25%, opposed to most other Swedish airports, for the second month in a row. It feels even better that the increase is connected to the international traffic and Cimber Sterling. It shows that the businesses in the region, understands the meaning of having a regional airport also during tougher times when we need each other the most, says Mari Torstensson, Airport Manager.
During 2008 113 515 persons in total flew to and from Norrköping Airport. 59 525 of those where domestic- and international passengers. 53 990 passengers where travelling on charter flights.
- 2008 also became our best year for aircargo during the entire 2000-century. For instance we have handled approximately 900 horses that have been imported from both Iceland and USA. Further on we look with big interest towards the future and in September 2009 we will celebrate 75 years, as Swedens oldest airport for commercial airtraffic. The work for continuously development continues. We have just started, concludes Mari Torstensson, Airport Manager.
